As promised, here’s a look at what I’d go see at this year’s Osheaga music and arts festival, Day 2 (if I were going, which I might but in case I don’t…Viva la Nightlife).
Saturday’s full lineup is available at www.osheaga.com but, for me, the main attractions at the 5 stages for the middle day event are as mixed as Friday!
Of all the Saturday performances I most hope to see, Feist stands out as a favorite. She has come a long way since first releasing Let it Die back in 2004. Touted as an indie darling ever since she became a little more known to the world, some of my favorite songs have been her take on Sealion Woman, the cleverly written L’amour ne dure pas toujours, and My Moon, My Man (is it wrong that I prefer the remix?). I have yet to see her live, so this would be a great way to start.
Another group I have yet to see live (due to my extreme youth in the 90’s, when I was still living on my foggy island paradise), but I always very happy to see come back for more is Garbage. I have been listening to the Shirley Manson led group since MuchMusic played music videos (yes, a music video channel that played music videos! Shocking, I know). Their song, #1 Crush was played on repeat on my CD player from the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack while Stupid Girl and Push It were also big hit back in the 90’s when my mother would ask, why are you listening to that Garbage?
Finishing up my bucket list of shows I would rent out an air conditioned blimp and hover over the festival to see are The Arkells, The Sheepdogs and Dumas. My favorite group, Hey Rosetta! would also be a favorite (if they were playing this year, which they are not! This is my imaginary list, so I can dream!)
Sunday doesn’t get its own post, but if I were going to be there, the only artist I want to see is Dan Mangan. Love the voice and with songs like Robots, you can’t help but smile when you hear them. After all, Robots really do need love too.
Are y’all headed out on Saturday or Sunday? Which shows are you seeing, or hoping to see?
