You Love Oil

Westmount has its fair share of wonderful restaurants, bars, cafes and shops offering a host of unique experiences you can’t find anywhere else in the city. Taking an afternoon to walk through the neighbourhood and do a little shopping is a great way to spend a few hours. OFOlives en folie recently opened on Victoria Avenue near Sherbrooke in the heart of one of Montreal’s most incredible shopping districts. We stopped by the brightly coloured store last week to learn more about their exclusive olive oils and balsamic vinegars. What we found was more than a store that sells oil; it’s a small start-up with big aspirations.

The shop features 11 varieties of EVOO from seven countries from around the world. Tasting stations are set up for each of the oils offered and for the connoisseur the tastings are done with special blue glasses that block the colour and viscosity of the oil, letting your taste buds do all the work. OF3On top of the 11 types of olive oil on hand, there are also 19 flavored olive oils available to turn up the notch on everything from soups and salads to dipping and even maybe a cocktail. Featuring oils infused with flavors ranging from garlic to lemongrass basil (my favorite), chipotle, rosemary, blood orange, smoked hickory and more, there’s no end how many ways these oils add a healthy dash of flavor to your food.

Besides the vast selection of oils, Olives en folie as features over 20 flavors of balsamic vinegar that pair wonderfully with the oils. The flavors range from blueberry and lavender to jalapeno, garlic, lemon, honey ginger and many more. The combinations are endless. OF1If you find yourself in the area, you should pay Olives en folie a visit. The helpful staff is wonderful and you will never look at oil and vinegar the same way again.
