Keeping Us Warm

Located only steps from St. Laurent in the in-between neighbourhood of Saint-Édouard is Les Cocottes, a charmingly eclectic restaurant that recently celebrated its first year in business. Serving a variety of comfort food staples, mostly in clay ramekins, the concept is completely simple and utterly savoury.

IMG_1353Late last week an intimate number of Montreal’s media gathered at the small restaurant to join in their first anniversary celebration. The occasion was celebrated with a live band, plenty of delicious food, copious amounts of wine and craft beer.

IMG_1331Les Cocottes has an interesting bistro/cafe atmosphere that helps make you feel right at home from the second you walk in. Though the tables were mostly taken away for the event, I would say that they space can hold no more that 20 tables which makes for an intimate night out on the town. They have an excellent selection of wines and beers both on tap and in the bottle.

IMG_1354The food was inspiring and delicious. Les Cocottes keeps the concept simple by preparing warm helpings of French comfort food. The plates are small and meant to be shared which reflects the restaurant’s cozy decor. Flavourful charcuterie and cheese plates, chunky stews, crunchy cod fritters and falafel and freshly cut beef and salmon tartar are among the dishes we enjoyed throughout the evening.

Being part of Montreal’s constantly moving media means a lot of things. One of the perks of running around the city is discovering places like Les Cocottes, places I might not have tried otherwise. This is a gem of a restaurant that will no doubt be celebrating many anniversaries to come.
