Happening Gourmand

January may not top the list of everyone’s favourite month of year but with the return of Happening Gourmand, we are warming up to a cool night out on the town in January and February. Beginning last Wednesday, the most wonderful time of the year in Old Montreal is back! Read on for more.

unspecified-3Returning for its 9th edition, Happening Gourmand is a superb food and drink festival that’s celebrated in a selection of fantastic restaurants located the heart of Old Montreal. From January 7th to February 7th, restaurants including Suite 701, BEVO and Taverne Gaspar (and many more. A link to the full list is provided below) will be featuring a special three course menu designed just for Happening Gourmand. To top it off, the prices are a fraction of what it normally costs to go out and eat so this is the perfect time to return to the places you love or discover them for the first time. Each restaurant will also feature a special cocktail to help lift your January spirits.

Over the sounds of a crackling fire we sampled the featured cocktails and bite-sized versions of what each restaurant will be serving you for the next month. Once again, the restaurants have outdone themselves with a succulent selection of delectable dishes. I heavily recommend the tortelloni stuffed with beef in a pesto cream sauce and mushrooms from BEVO, the mac-n-cheese with bacon (pictured below) and green peas from Taverne Gaspar and the roasted flat-iron steak with polenta and mushroom sauce (pictured below). These were my top three favourite dishes of the evening.
