Grill Master

No matter how fancy food can get, nothing beats a good homestyle barbecue. The scent of grilled meat and spices slowly roasting over smouldering charcoal or sweet, smokey wood get mouths watering like little else. Lattuca Barbecue is an excellent yet surprising addition to Old Montreal’s collection of restaurants because of its simplistic approach to grilling great food.

Lattuca_Launch-78Though Lattuca has been more or less open since late last year, the restaurant has only now started to find its footing (and we are very happy about that) and develop a following. A passion project from award winning pit master, John Lattuca, his restaurant is a unique concept here in Montreal. John has honed his craft, barbecuing all over the world and last fall he came home to Montreal with a desire to provide hungry Montrealer’s with an authentic American smokehouse experience.

Lattuca_Launch-81Each day a predetermined amount of meat is slowly barbecued offsite and delivered to the restaurant where it is prepared and served fresh. This by-the-batch concept was developed in Texas where barbecue reigns king. The barbecue process can take as long as 14 hours to get the meat cooked just right, resulting in succulent spare ribs and mouthwatering brisket.

Lattuca_Launch-53Lattuca_Launch-84Lattuca’s menu features a concise collection of barbecued meat, pulled pork sandwiches and excellent side dishes that pair as perfectly with a fresh poured draft beer as they do with an expertly aged bottle of wine. Don’t worry, there’s also dessert for those who always seem to have room after devouring their main course. The restaurant seats up to 46 people at a time, creating a customer driven atmosphere that is as laid back and relaxed as you might expect it to be.

Lattuca_Launch-90Barbecue is always in season (no one would disagree) and Lattuca will certainly have people lining up all year long. We definitely recommend a detour into Old Montreal to give this place a try. You will not be disappointed.
