It was almost 30 years ago that the first Le Germain Hotel opened in Quebec City. Named Germain-des-près, the boutique hotel was the launching point for one Canada’s most successful homegrown hotel chains. Today, with 6 hotels in operation across Canada (and one coming soon in Ottawa) under the Germain banner and 6 hotels (with two on the way) operating under the Alt Hotels banner, the sky’s the limit when it comes to luxurious comfort.
During a recent press trip in Toronto I stayed at Le Germain Hotel Maple Leaf Square. Thoughtful modern design, minimal environmental impact and discrete customer service are the cornerstones that have been the foundation of Le Germain group since the opening of the first hotel in 1988. Conceived by entrepreneurial siblings, Christiane and Jean-Yves Germain, Le Germain Hotel is an inspiration of their parent’s love of quality service, refined elegance and expert attention.
Each hotel’s design is heavily influenced by its surroundings making each property entirely unique. Le Germain Maple Leaf Square is conveniently located between both the Air Canada Centre and the Rogers Centre, making it an ideal location and choice for sports enthusiasts. Within walking distance to Union station and Billy Bishop Airport, the hotel is easily accessible and only minutes from downtown.
Given the proximity to the sports and entertainment centres, Le Germain Maple Leaf Square is designed with sports in mind. Each of the hotel’s 167 rooms display artwork featuring Toronto’s high-profile, major-league athletes. The gym features equipment supplied by the same company that supplies to the Toronto Maple Leafs and some of the furniture in the rooms is designed based on hockey pucks. The rooms in each of the hotels are superbly designed using primary materials like wood, concrete and glass as the building blocks for their design.
Each room features wide-angle windows that let light come pouring in and provides each guest with a great view of the ever-expanding city. The rooms are also set up in a way that the bathroom is open concept which opens the room up and makes it feel larger. The shower has been placed in the middle of the room, adding a distinctiveness touch to the rooms. Truly a marvellous touch that leans towards a refined masculine atmosphere. The hotel also features complimentary wifi, a continental breakfast that is served every morning on the second floor mezzanine and Play lounge, a perfect place to grab a drink and a quick bite before or after the baseball, hockey or basketball game.
Le Germain Maple Leaf Square is connected to a shopping centre featuring a grocery store, restaurants, shops and more. The hotel is also steps away from Ripley’s Aquarium, the CN Tower, City Hall and Dundas Square. Many of the city’s most interesting restaurants are located in the area as well and a quick cab ride brings you to West Queen West, one of Toronto’s up and coming neighbourhoods to watch.
My personal experience at the hotel was profoundly positive, the staff was warm and accommodating and the hotel itself was the embodiment of the wow-factor. A stay at a Le Germain hotel is a guarantee that you will enjoy your time but in the end of your stay, you may not ever want to leave.
